Xenon Guide - What are Xenon Lights?

Xenon Lights are an alternative to traditional halogen lights. A Xenon bulb contains noble gases including Xenon. There are two electrodes inside the bulb but the electrodes are not connected by a filament as they are in a halogen bulb. Instead, they are connected by an electric arc which is produced when there is a high intensity discharge (HID). Hence, they are also known as HID lights. The high intensity discharge is controlled by a ballast so the electric arc and light is maintained.

Xenon headlamps were first introduced in 1991 on the BMW 7 series. Now, modern day xenon kits like Clear Vision allow almost all cars to benefit from this amazing technology.

Why are Xenon Lights better than Halogen Lights?

Xenon lights are safer
The light from Xenon illuminates a wider area and makes roads brighter. Xenon light is also closer to natural daylight which is more welcoming to the human eye. Drivers are therefore more relaxed and do not tire as easily when driving at night.

Xenon lights consume less energy
A 35W Xenon bulb consumes 3 times less than a traditional halogen bulb.

Xenon lights last longer
A Xenon bulb can last for up to 3000 hours which is 6 times more than a traditional halogen bulb.
